Volunteer Position | Governance Leadership
About RCPSF

Founded in 1988, the Rockdale County Public Schools Foundation enhances student learning by providing financial support for innovative initiatives, rewarding student achievement, and advocating for public education.

Position Overview

Board members serve as volunteer leaders and fiduciaries of the Foundation. They are responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring sound governance, supporting fundraising, and advancing the Foundation’s mission. This is an active, engaged role requiring time, expertise, and community commitment.

Time Commitment: An average of 2–4 hours per week, including board meetings, committee work, and community engagement.

Compensation: This is an uncompensated volunteer position.

Board Responsibilities

The board collectively is responsible for:

  • Defining the Foundation’s mission and strategic direction
  • Selecting, supporting, and evaluating executive leadership
  • Fiduciary oversight, financial management, and resource development
  • Monitoring programs and ensuring legal and ethical integrity
  • Enhancing public impact and assessing board performance
Individual Member Commitments

Each board member agrees to:

  • Uphold nonprofit governance laws, bylaws, and board policies
  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure; maintain confidentiality
  • Read financial statements and board materials before each meeting
  • Attend board meetings regularly
  • Serve actively on at least one committee
  • Make a meaningful personal financial contribution annually
  • Actively advocate and fundraise on behalf of the Foundation
  • Leverage personal networks to advance the Foundation’s mission
  • Participate in the annual board self-evaluation
  • Notify the Board Chair if unable to meet commitments
  • Support board decisions and uphold a constructive, inclusive culture
